Marywood University is an institution whose academic quality is enhanced by a competitive athletic tradition and a comprehensive recreational program.
Marywood is an NCAA Division III institution and a member of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), formerly known as the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC). To read more about the conference, please visit the CSAC website.
Pacers sport schedules are challenging and include contests against schools encompassing a wide geographic area. Fourteen (14) varsity sports are sponsored: six men's (baseball, basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, and tennis) and eight women's sports (basketball, cross country, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball).
Since joining the Colonial Statest Athletic Conference in 1992, Marywood teams have captured 23 championships and earned 17 runner-up finishes. In that time, more than 450 student-athletes have earned All-Conference honors (178 First Team, 165 Second Team, 73 Honorable Mention and 64 All-Sportsmanship), ten athletes have been recognized as the Player of the Year or Runner of the Year for their respective sport, and eight athletes were lauded as Regional All-Americans.
Equally important as all of the athletic honors, over 1,000 athletes have earned All-Conference Honor Roll status (minimum 3.2 GPA), five athletes have earned Regional Academic All-American status, five athletes have been named the Conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year and three more have earned NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships. In the spring of 2008, standout softball player Erika Cook became Marywood's first athlete, male or female, to be named to a National Academic All-American team. Cook earned third team honors on the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American squad. Pacers’ coaches have also been awarded Conference Coach of the Year honors an impressive 30 times.
Marywood is also guided by the belief that recreational opportunities are vital to the collegiate experience. Thus we offer opportunities in this area including a diverse selection of more than forty intramural programs and a variety of fitness, aerobic, martial arts, and recreation classes. In addition, club sports such as cheerleading, dance, swimming and Pep Band are sponsored. Free aerobic classes are also available for all students.
The $14 million Robert J. Mellow Center for Athletics and Wellness opened in the fall of 2006. The Mellow Center offers state-of-the-art fitness, recreation, and athletic opportunities and includes a premier fitness center, climbing wall, elevated running track, dance/aerobic studio, the 1,500 season Insalaco Arena to showcase Pacers sports, and high-tech athletic training areas. The Mellow Center compliments other activity areas around campus, including a 25-meter indoor swimming pool and racquetball courts. Additional outdoor facilities include newly refurbished tennis courts, a sand volleyball court and basketball courts. Our baseball and softball fields are some of the finest in the region and our multipurpose natural grass field has undergone a major renovation which includes laser-leveling, an irrigation system and a new grass mixture. A new $2.13 million multipurpose synthetic turf facility opened in July 2009 and will be utilized by many outdoor sports as well as recreation programs.
The University has also begun planning for a new multi-million dollar Natatorium which will serve varsity Swimming and Diving teams for both men and women as well as recreational aquatic needs.
