Box Score

Scranton, PA - Freshman Erika Von Zup out-lasted Jen Gregory 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 7-5 at five-singles play to give Marywood the fifth and decisive point as the Pacers improved to 3-0 on the year with a 5-4 non-conference win over visiting Mount Saint Mary College Sunday afternoon in Scranton.  The Blue Knights fell to 1-1 on the year with the loss.

After winning their first two matches by scores of 9-0, Marywood found themselves down early after the Blue Knights earned a 8-2 win at one-doubles.  Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg and her teammate Emily Gregory would beat Marywood's Ashley Karli (Blandon, PA) and Caili Nizamis (Baldwinsville, NY) in the top doubles flight.  Marywood would respond with wins at two and three doubles, however, to go into singles play with a 2-1 lead.

At two-doubles, Marywood's team of Kara Hoff (Montoursville, PA) and Melissa Hudock (Pitman, NJ) beat Lindsay Searle and Annie Liewellyn 8-4 while at three-doubles Beth Schneider (Port Jervis, NY) and Lindsay Burke (Yorktown, NY) were 8-1 winners over Jen Gregory and Linnea Mowat.

The Blue Knights would reclaim a 3-2 lead with wins at one and two singles as Murphy-Goldberg downed Karli 6-2, 6-0 in the top singles flight while Searle was a 6-3, 7-6 (6-4) winner over Hudock.  The Pacers answered back with wins at three and four singles from Schneider and Burke respectively but Emily Gregory knotted the match at 3-3 with a 6-0, 6-2 win for MSMC at six-singles.

With all eyes on them, Von Zup (Tannersville, PA) and Jen Gregory battled through a long three set, extending the match to five an a half hours in length.  Gregory took the opener 7-6 with a 8-6 win in the tiebreaker.  Von Zup responded with a 6-3 win in the second set before closing the match with a 7-5 win in the third set.

Marywood returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Radnor to face Cabrini College at 4:00 pm.
