Radnor, PA – Top-seeded Cabrini College defeated fifth-seeded Marywood University 21-4 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 10-7 on the season and advance to Saturday’s CSAC Final while the Pacers end their season with a 9-9 record, the first .500 or better season in the program’s three-year history.
Cabrini’s Erin Nollen gave Wednesday’s host a 1-0 lead just 1:07 into the contest, starting a string of six-consecutive goals by the Cavaliers before junior Alexis Willey (Hummelstown, PA) got Marywood on the board of the 17:56 mark of the first half to cut the Pacers’ deficit to 6-1. Cabrini responded with the final nine goals of the first half, including five in a four-minute span late in the period, to give the Cavaliers a commanding 15-1 lead at the intermission.
CSAC Player of the Year Amanda Alexandrowicz scored her fifth goal of the game 56 seconds into the second half before Marywood junior Meg Barbarino (Endwell, NY) scored off a an assist from senior Kelly Kuzicki (Vernon, NJ) at the 24:45 mark of the second half. The Cavaliers tallied the next five markers of the contest to hold a 21-2 lead with 12 minutes to play before Pacers’ junior Allie Sodl (Coplay, PA) and freshman Kelly Kryspin (Hopatcong, NJ) netted unassisted markers to close out the scoring.
Cabrini finished the game with a commanding 44-13 advantage in shots and collected 37 groundballs to Marywood’s 18. Nollen lead the Cavaliers attack with 10 points on eight goals and two assists while Alexandrowicz finished with eight points on seven goals and one helper. Kate Schmid made four saves in just under 50 minutes between Cabrini’s pipes to pick u the win before being replaced by Gianna Porretta, who made one stop in the final 10 minutes.
Playing in her final game of her Marywood career, senior Carrie Glenn (Rifton, NY) collected a game-high eight groundballs to go along with three caused turnovers while junior goalie Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) made 13 saves in Marywood’s cage.
Taylor McKeown (Nashua, NH) was held off the scoreboard for first time in 33 career games. The sophomore attacker, a First Team All-Conference selection, finished the 2010 season with program-bests of 84 goals and 95 points.
Marywood’s nine wins this year are the most in program’s brief history.
