Marywood Suffers Spring Setback to Misercordia
Playing in only official match of spring, Pacers fall 6-3 to Cougars

Scranton, PA - Playing in their only official match of the spring semester, Marywood University fell to local non-conference rival Misericordia University by a score of 6-3 in women's tennis action Saturday afternoon in Scranton. Marywood closes their 2009-2010 campaign with a 7-8 overall record while the Cougars will head into the MAC Freedom Conference playoffs sporting a 9-6 mark.
Misericordia grabbed an early 2-1 lead after doubles play after they got wins at one doubles from the team of Maura Haupt and Courtney Otto. That duo defeated Marywood's Ashley Karli and Lauren Fersch in a closely contested match, 8-6. The Cougars' two-doubles team of Abby Searfoss and Lauren Verret had a much easier time as they downed the Pacers' duo of Beth Schneider and Lindsay Burke, 8-2. Marywood got their lone doubles point as Kellie Coleman and Jessica Brogna downed Ellyn Wingert and Jennifer Spott by a score of 8-3.
Misericordia got wins at one, three, five and six singles to earn the overall win. Searfoss cruised past Karli 6-1, 6-1 at the top singles flight while Otto was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Burke at three-singles. Wingert took care of Kristin Guba 6-2, 7-5 at five singles before Spott earned a singles win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Elizabeth Sullivan.
Marywood got their singles victories from Schneider (6-4, 6-4 over Haupt) and Coleman, who defeated Verret in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.
