Box Score
Clermont, FL – Marywood University’s fifth inning rally fell short as the Pacers fell to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 3-2 in non-conference softball action Friday morning in Florida. The Pacers fell to 2-7 on the year and will close out their annual spring break trip later today against Lebanon Valley College. RHIT, meanwhile, improved to 4-3 with the win.
Trailing 3-0 after four innings of play, Marywood scored twice in the fifth to cut into the RHIT lead but could not score again. After Kaitlyn Jones reached on an error, Miranda Sorber doubled to score Jones. Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) then singled to advance Sorber to third, and Sorber (Hunlock Creek, PA) would score when Lope got caught in a run-down between first and second.
Unfortunately for the Pacers, winning pitcher Brianne Widmayer closed the door on Marywood’s offense the rest of the way. Widmayer pitched a complete game, striking out two and scattering seven hits over seven innings.
Jones (Madison Township, PA) allowed three runs on seven hits over four innings of work. Julie Dougherty (Wading River, NY) pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
