Clermont, FL – Marywood University used a strong offensive outing and freshman hurler Kaitlyn Jones shut the door on the Lycoming’s bats to pick up her first collegiate save as Marywood beat the Warriors 10-8 in non-conference softball action Thursday afternoon in Florida. Marywood improved to 2-5 on the year with the win.
Jones (Madison Township, PA), who a day ago limited #2 Ohio Northern to just three runs in a loss, relieved starter Talia Williams (Berwick, PA) for the final 1.1 innings to preserve the Marywood win. Williams (Berwick, PA) improved to 1-1 on the year after getting credit for the win. The freshman hurler pitched 5.2 innings, blanking the Warriors for four of those, but gave up three in the fourth and was responsible for runners on in a five-run sixth before Jones closed the door.
Marywood, who had two four-run innings on the day, had an exceptionally strong offensive performance. Kaitlyn Brennan (Taylor, PA) led the way for Marywood, going 3-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI. Colleen Regan (Endwell, NY) was 3-4 with a double and two RBI, while Meghin Palmer (Greencastle, PA) was 2-3 with two runs scored.
Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) was 1-2 at the plate, scored three runs and stole three bases. Ashley Dommes (Scranton, PA) was 2-2 with a double and two RBI.
Marywood returns to action at 7:30 pm this evening when the Pacers take on NAIA member Cedarville University (Ohio).
