Aston, PA – Four Marywood University women’s basketball players were honored today as the Colonial States Athletic Conference announced the recipients of the Player, Rookie and Coach of the year; First, Second and Honorable Mention All-Conference teams and individual sportsmanship awards. Mariah Schaeffer was named Second Team All-Conference while Lizzy Green and Amanda Lass picked up All-Conference Honorable Mention accolades. Erin Furlong was named to the CSAC Sportsmanship Team.
Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) was named to the All-Conference Second Team after leading the Pacers in scoring during the regular season, averaging 13.3 points per game while scoring a team-best 320 points on the season. The sophomore guard, who has started all 24 games this season for the Pacers, currently ranks fifth in conference in free throw percentage, hitting 76.3 percent of her attempts from the charity stripe. Schaeffer, who was named the CSAC Player of the Week for the week ending December 6th, is averaging 4.5 rebounds per game and has contributed 61 assists and 20 steals on the season.
Green (Shenandoah, PA) was selected All-Conference Honorable Mention for the second straight season after a solid senior campaign. The center is averaging 10.7 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game, both ranking second on the team. Green ranks fourth in conference in field goal percentage, connecting on 51 percent of her attempts from the floor. Named to the CSAC Player of the Week Honor Roll twice this season, Green has blocked a team-high seven shots while adding 40 steals and 19 assists.
Lass (Brackney, PA) was named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention squad for the third time in her career after averaging 9.5 points per game and a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game during the regular season. The senior forward is currently second in conference in field goal percentage, hitting on 52.6 of her field goal attempts. Lass, who was named to the CSAC Player of the Week Honor Roll for week ending January 24th, became the ninth player in Marywood history to score 1,000 points for her career in a win at Cedar Crest on January 21st and currently ranks seventh on the Pacers’ all-time scoring list.
Furlong (Albany, NY) was named to the CSAC Sportsmanship Team after serving as a team captain for the Pacers during their record-breaking season this year. The senior forward has appeared in 14 games this season, scoring eight points while pulling down 14 rebounds and contributing two assists and one steal.
Marywood currently fashions an18-6 record on the season and finished atop the CSAC North Division standings with a 13-3 mark in conference play. The Pacers’ 18 wins are the second most in school history, trailing only the 1986-87 team that went 19-8 and reached the NCAA Tournament.
Marywood, the third-seed in this year’s CSAC playoffs, will host sixth-seeded Immaculata University in the first round of the conference tournament on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The Pacers, who finished the regular season a perfect 12-0 at home, beat the Mighty Macs 80-66 on November 30th in Scranton when the two teams met during the regular season.
