Scranton, PA – Marywood University broken open a tied game by finishing the first half with a 27-4 run on their way to a 67-33 win over visiting Baptist Bible College on Monday evening. With the win the Pacers improved to 9-3 on the season and 4-0 in the CSAC while the Defenders fell to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

After Baptist Bible’s Marlie Kneifel knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game at 11-11 with 10:34 to play in the first half, Marywood responded with a 14-0 run over the next five and a half minutes and would outscore the Defenders 27-5 the rest of the half to take a 38-16 lead into halftime. Mariah Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) had 11 first half points for Marywood to lead all scorers, as the Pacers shot 44.1 percent from the floor in the opening half while Baptist Bible connected on just 20.8 percent of their shots.

A week after topping the Defenders 82-44 in Clarks Summit, Marywood continued to stretch their lead in the second half, despite shooting just eight field goals in the second half, as the hosts connected on 12 of their 13 free throw attempts in the second half. The Pacers finished the evening shooting 37.1 percent from the floor, 30.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.9 percent from the charity stripe while the Defenders shot 25.5 percent from the floor and connected on just one three-point shot on 11 attempts.

Marywood, who remained unbeaten at home, sporting a 6-0 mark in the Insalaco Arena, was led by Schaeffer’s 16 points on seven for 11 shooting night. Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) added 14 points and six rebounds in the win while Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA) had 12 points and 6 boards. Lass needs just nine points to reach the 1,000 point plateau for her career.

Baptist Bible was led by Laurie Plante’s 11 points while Kneifel finished with 10 points for the Defenders.

Marywood will travel to Allentown, PA on Thursday evening to take on Cedar Crest College in a CSAC match-up scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
