Scranton, PA - Marywood University opened with an alley-oop dunk on the first play of the game and a 18-1 run over the opening five minutes and the Pacers cruised to a 97-65 win over visiting Baptist Bible College Monday night in Scranton. Marywood, playing in honor of assistant coach Paul Johnson who passed away unexpectedly this past Saturday, got a game-high 25 points from Sidney Tharpe and placed four players in double-figures to improve to 5-9 (2-6 CSAC). BBC fell to 2-10 and 1-5 in conference play.

The Pacers opened the game with a set play which had D.J. Strayhorn (Henryville, PA) send a lob pass in to Lenny Martin (Wilkes-Barre, PA) who promptly slammed home a dunk to start the game. Marywood then got three three-pointers from Tharpe (Victorville, CA) before closing an 18-1 run to start the game with a Matt Lepri (Tannersville, PA) fast-break dunk.

The Pacers would not look back from there, and went into the locker room having doubled up the Defenders in the opening half, 58-29. Tharpe had 23 points in the opening half and 25 on the night. Jacques Robinson (Athens, GA) had 11 in the opening half and 21 for the game, while Strayhorn and Tyler Reinhard (Highlands, NJ) each added 10. Strayhorn would add seven assists on the night as Marywood shot 52% from the floor on the night.

BBC placed four players in double figures as well as Travis Wash led the Defenders with a team-high 17 point night. The senior forward completed a double-double by grabbing 10 boards as well. Matt McCarty had 13 points and Seth Bernard and Kyle Pannebaker each had 10.

Marywood returns to action Saturday when the Pacers host Rosemont College in CSAC action at 3:00 pm. A viewing for Coach Johnson will be held this Wednesday, January 20 from 4-8 pm at McGoff-Hughes funeral home on Capouse Avenue in Scranton. Funeral arrangements are still pending.
