Men's Basketball all-time leading scorer and former tennis great are14th class of honorees
Marywood will induct two former athletes into the Athletics Hall of Fame on February 6
Scranton, PA – Two former Marywood University athletic standouts will be inducted as the 14th class of honorees into Marywood University’s prestigious Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 6, 2010 on the University’s campus. Anthony Mauro and Beth Eisenhower Fuller were selected for induction by the University’s Hall of Fame Committee and approved by Marywood University President Sister Anne Munley, IHM, Ph.D.
Archbald resident Anthony Mauro, the all-time leading scorer in Marywood men’s basketball history and 2000 graduate is being honored after a decorated playing career from 1996-2000. Mauro becomes the first men’s basketball player to enter the Hall of Fame. The all-time leading scorer in men’s basketball history with 1,460 career points, Mauro led the Pacers to their first-ever Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) playoff appearance during his senior season and was a four-time PAC All-Conference Honorable Mention selection. Mauro, who earned Academic Honor Roll accolades each of his four seasons at Marywood, was also named the 2000 Marywood University Mary Beth Salmon Award winner.
Selected as the team Most Valuable Player for the 1998-1999 season, Mauro captained the Pacers during both his junior and senior seasons. Mauro is still the career record holder for several Marywood University men’s basketball program records. He ranks first in career field goals made (537), field goals attempted (1,253), free throws made (305), free throws attempted (437), points (1,460) and points per game average (15.4). Mauro held several single-season records for many years and is now currently ranked second in free throws made in a single season (97) and free throws attempted in a single season (133). Mauro also ranks second with his 11 made free throws in a single game which he accomplished in 1997 versus the University of Scranton.
Mauro, who graduated with a degree Accounting, returned to his alma mater to earn a M.A. degree in Finance and Investment in 2005. Anthony is married to the former Jennifer Kuduk, a 2003 Marywood graduate. Together, they have two children, Anthony Jr., 4, and Grayson, 2. Mauro is currently employed as a Financial Analyst fat Lockheed Martin in Archbald.
Beth Eisenhower Fuller, Bethlehem, a 2000 graduate of Marywood University, is one of the most decorated women’s tennis players in program history. Selected as the 1999 PAC Player of the Year, Fuller led the Pacers to Team Championships in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and to a Team Runner-up finish in 1996.
Selected as the women’s tennis team MVP in both 1997 and 1999, Fuller was a 1996 All-PAC First Team Doubles selection and a 1997 All-PAC Second Team Singles section. Fuller, who was a PAC Academic Honor Roll member for all four years of her career, was named Marywood University’s Senior Student Athlete of the Year in 2000. Fuller owns a career overall record of 72-18 after posting a four-year record of 35-9 in singles play and a 37-9 record in doubles action.
Fuller graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Marywood University in 2000 and currently resides in Bethlehem. Together with her husband Kirk, the couple has two children, Brianna, 4 and Chloe, 1.
The two inductees will be honored at the Hall of Fame brunch at Marywood University’s Nazareth Center on February 6th before being honored at half time of the women’s basketball game against Philadelphia Biblical University in the Insalaco Arena at the Robert J. Mellow Center for Athletics and Wellness on the Marywood University campus.
