Erika Cook repeated as a CoSIDA Acadedic All-District selection in 2009
Scranton, PA - Marywood University softball player Erika Cook has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Second Team in an announcement made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon.  A National Third-Team and District II First Team selection in 2008, Cook becomes the first Marywood athlete to repeat as a recipient of the honor.

Cook (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing Valley) became Marywood's first National Academic All-American last year and joins former baseball player Jason Leidel and women's soccer standout Marissa Ruda as the only Marywood athletes to earn the CoSIDA academic honor.  Leidel earned the honor in 2002 and Ruda in 2006.  Both were also First Team District 2 selections.

Cook, a First Team All-Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) selection, was the only athlete from a CSAC school to be honored this year.  A dual Health and Physical Education and Athletic Training major, Cook maintains a 3.73 grade point average and has re-written nearly all of the Marywood softball record book over the course of her career.

A second baseman for the Pacers, Cook led the Pacers to a school record 27 wins and second consecutive playoff berth in 2009.  In her four-year career from 2006-2009, Cook established new career school records for
highest batting average (.435), games played (146), runs scored (153), hits (218), doubles (45) and triples (19).  In 2009, she set single-season marks for triples (10) while having set four other single season records in 2008 (runs scored - 47; hits - 66; triples - 10; highest batting average - .524).

A First, Second and Third Team are chosen by ballot by Sports Information Directors in each district.  Sports Information Directors nominate student-athletes who are not only standouts on the field of play but also those who maintain high academic standards.  The national ballot will be voted upon by the entire CoSIDA membership in late May.
