Matt Newcomb's First Team All-Conference selection highlighted five postseason honors for the Pacers.
Aston, PA – Five Marywood University men’s baseball players have earned Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) All-Conference honors according to an announcement made today by the commissioner’s office. Senior outfielder Matt Newcomb was named First Team All-Conference while TJ Czerw, Joe Diskin, Pat Diskin, and Ryan Cusomato were each selected to the Second Team All-Conference squad.
Newcomb (Honesdale, PA) was named First Team All-Conference as an outfielder after a stellar senior campaign in which he set a new school record for hits in a season with 58. A transfer from Lackawanna College, Newcomb started all 34 games for the Pacers this past season and led the team in nearly all offensive categories. In addition to his single-season record for hits, Newcomb recorded a school single-season record .468 batting average with 11 doubles, four triples, four home runs, and 37 RBIs. A center-fielder for the Pacers, Newcomb committed just two errors on the season with a .974 fielding percentage.
Czerw, a sophomore from Scranton, PA, captured Second Team honors as a first baseman after starting 29 games for the Pacers this past season. The second year player recorded 29 hits on the season including two home runs while batting .290 for the season. Czerw led Marywood with 162 put outs and posted a .966 fielding percentage this past year. Czerw was also selected as Marywood’s recipient of the CSAC Sportsmanship Award.
Joe Diskin, a sophomore from Clarks Summit, PA, was selected to the Second Team All-Conference squad for the second straight season after a solid second-year. Diskin appeared in 29 games for the Pacers this year, hitting .359 with 37 hits and 8 RBIs. The second-year player led the team with 19 stolen bases and was second on the squad with 32 runs. Diskin finished the season with a .922 fielding percentage.
Pat Diskin, a senior from Clarks Summit, PA, capped his career with Second Team All-Conference laurels as a catcher after appearing in 26 contests behind the plate for the Pacers. Diskin batted .388 on the year with 26 hits including five doubles and 13 RBIs. The four-year letter-winner also posted a .468 on-base percentage and was second on the team with 104 putouts and a .969 fielding percentage.
Cusomato, a junior from Sparta, NJ, was selected to the Second Team All-Conference squad as a designated hitter after appearing in 30 games for Marywood this past spring. Cusomato posted a .340 batting average and was second on the club with 10 doubles and 24 RBIs. The three-year letter-winning also recorded 64 putouts and recorded an .895 fielding percentage.
