Construction on Marywood's new turf field completed in July with amenities still being added
Scranton, PA - Construction on Marywood University's new synthetic turf field has completed, with amenities around the facility to be completed soon. Several Marywood University sports teams will benefit from the new multi-purpose turf field, including men's and women's lacrosse, field hockey and men's and women's soccer.  In addition, other sports, such as baseball and softball, will be able to utilize the turf field for practices when inclement weather keeps them off of their main fields.

After the Army Corps of Engineers completed initial clearing and compacting of the land where the turf field will sit, crews began to level the land and install drainage and rocks.  On May 22, crews began putting the turf itself into place.  The turf installation, with lines for Men's and Women's Soccer, Field Hockey, Men's Lacrosse and Women's Lacrosse, were completed by the week of June 8.  In addtion, the Marywood "M" logo was put into the turf, as were coaching boxes and penalty areas.

The facility was fenced in and lights were put into place in mid-July and will be fully functional once the electrical room within the storage facility is completed (early September).  Amenities such as parking and bleachers will be installed next and will be ready by the fall sports season.  A brand new state-of-the-art Datronics scoreboard and sound-system will be in place by mid-September.  The land where the turf field sits has been of a "BAMR" project, an acronym for the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation.

Already, the turf field has been used for three weeks of soccer camp and has been tested by heavy rains througout the summer, passing the drainage test each time.  The defending CSAC Champion women's soccer team will host the first official intercollegiate athletics contest on the new turf field on Tuesday, September 1 at 4:00 pm against Wilkes University.  The men's soccer team will follow with the first game to be played under the lights, also against Wilkes University, at 7:00 pm on September 1.
