Aston, PA – Four Marywood University men’s soccer players have earned year-end honors as the Colonial States Athletic Conference announced the recipients of the Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Year; First, Second and Honorable Mention All-Conference teams and individual sportsmanship awards today. Ryan Jones and Brett Megee became the first Marywood men's players to named First Team All-Conference in program history. Additionally, Jared El Gayeh earned Second Team All-Conference recognition while Joshua Hicks was named Marywood’s recipient of the CSAC Sportsmanship Award.
Jones, a freshman from Holland, PA, was named to the First Team All-Conference squad after an outstanding rookie season in which he leads Marywood in assists and is second on the squad in points from his outside back position. Jones finished the regular season tied for third in assists with five, including two on game-winning goals. The freshman has also scored two goals to finish the regular season with nine points. Jones has helped the Pacers’ defense, which is averaging less than a goal against per game, to five shutouts. Jones was the only freshman named to this year’s First Team All-Conference squad.
Megee, a sophomore from Easton, PA, earned First Team All-Conference honors a year after being named to the Second Team as a freshman. An attacking midfielder, Megee leads Marywood with five goals on the season and one assist for 11 points. Megee scored a pair of goals in a win over conference opponent Baptist Bible College and also had goals in wins over conference opponents Gwynedd-Mercy College and Keystone College.
El Gayeh, a sophomore from Baldwin, NY garnered Second Team All-Conference honors for the second straight season after a stellar second season as Marywood’s goalkeeper. El Gayeh leads the conference with a 0.75 goals against average and a .867 save percentage. The sophomore goalkeeper has allowed just 13 goals on the season and just five in conference play while posting four solo shutouts and playing all five of Marywood’s clean sheets. El Gayeh has conceded more than one goal in just two of the 15 games in which he has started this season.
Hicks, a junior from Spring Brook, PA, was named Marywood’s CSAC Sportsmanship Award Recipient for the second-straight year after appearing in 13 games, including 12 as a starter. After starting the season as a defender, Hicks moved up to forward midway through the season where he has netted two goals and an assist for five points. Both of Hicks’ goals have been game-winners in conference play, the first in a 3-0 win over Keystone College and the second coming in a 2-0 win over Philadelphia Biblical University.
Marywood, the fourth-seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs, will host fifth-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy College in a first round match-up on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
