Marywood Splits in Regular Season Finale
Pacers fall to the University of Scranton 3-0, rebound to top Kean 3-1

Scranton, PA – Marywood University’s volleyball team closed out their regular season Saturday by splitting a pair of non-conference matches in a tri-match held at Marywood’s Insalaco Arena. The Pacers fell in three games to the University of Scranton before rebounding to top Kean University three games to one. Marywood will take a 10-15 overall record into Tuesday’s Colonial States Athletic Conference first round playoff match at Philadelphia Biblical University on Tuesday.

In Saturday’s opening match, the University of Scranton topped cross-town rival Marywood for the third time this season, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-21 to claim the sweep.

The Pacers were led by Taryn Borden (Bridgewater, NJ) who recorded team-highs of 12 kills and 14 digs while Emily Fillman (Clarion, PA) contributed 10 kills and eight digs. Riona Corr (Somersworth, NH) had 26 assists for Marywood while Arielle Cassidy (Garwood, NJ) picked up 11 digs in the loss.

In Marywood’s second match of the day against Kean, the Pacers claimed the first game 25-20 before the Cougars knotted the match at one set apiece with a tight 26-24 win in game two. The hosts would respond with wins of 25-20 and 27-25 to claim their 10th win of the season.

Fillman recorded a match-best 19 kills in the win to go along with 8 digs while Borden added eight kills of her own. Alyssa Hartranft (Mountain Top, PA) led the Pacers with 22 assists while Cassidy had a match-high 22 digs in the win.

The Cougars were led by Tara Richey’s nine kills, Colleen Masterson’s 18 assists, and Mary Aldana’s 12 digs.

Marywood, the sixth seed in this year’s CSAC playoffs, will travel to Langhorne, PA this Tuesday to take on third-seeded Philadelphia Biblical in the first round of the conference playoffs. First serve is between Pacers and Crimson Eagles is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Marywood swept PBU in the regular season meeting between the two squads on October 10th.
