Aston, PA – Five Marywood University field hockey players earned recognition Friday afternoon as the Colonial States Athletic Conference announced the recipients of First, Second and Honorable Mention All-Conference teams and individual sportsmanship awards. Brittany Beaton was named First Team All-Conference while Emily Wentzel and Maggie Brittain earned Second Team honors. Carrie Glenn and Morgan Walsh both earned spots on the Honorable Mention squad.
Beaton, a junior from Bethel, PA, earned her first All-Conference selection after leading the Pacers in scoring with eight goals and four assists for twenty points. The forward, who has scored a goal in each of Marywood’s last five games, also leads the team with four game-winning goals and was credited with one defensive save on the year. Beaton has started all 16 games this season to lead the Pacers to their second-straight trip to the CSAC playoffs.
Wentzel, a senior from East Earl, PA, was named Second Team All-Conference after earning Honorable Mention recognition a season ago. Wentzel scored one goal on the season while taking 15 shots and has been relied on to help the Pacers control play from her central midfield position. Wentzel was also named as Marywood’s recipient of the CSAC Sportsmanship Award.
Brittain, a sophomore from Clarks Summit, PA, picked up Second Team All-Conference accolades after a solid season on Marywood’s defense. Brittain started all 16 games to date for Pacers and has recorded two goals for four points on the year. The Abington Heights graduate scored in Marywood’s season-opening 2-0 win over Moravian College and also netted the first goal in the Pacers’ 2-1 win over Hood College on October 16th.
Glenn, a senior from Rifton, NY, caps off an outstanding four-year career in a Marywood uniform with an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection, her third year-end conference award. A 2007 Second Team pick and a 2008 First Team selection, Glenn was honored after anchoring Marywood’s defense, starting 14 of the 15 games in which she has played and helping lead the Pacers defense to two shutouts.
Walsh, a freshman from Leesport, PA, earned Honorable Mention laurels after an outstanding rookie campaign. The defender leads the Pacers with three defensive saves while contributing two assists on the offensive end. Walsh, who has started all 15 games in which she has played this season, set up the game-winning goal in a key conference win over the College of Notre Dame on October 17th.
Marywood, the fifth seed in this year’s playoffs, will take on fourth-seeded Cabrini College on Saturday in the first round of the CSAC tournament. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Radnor.
